Bartlett extension
Meanwhile, Arsenal's London rivals Charlton Athletic FC have secured the services of South African striker Shaun Bartlett for another season. Bartlett, who has scored in Charlton's last two Premiership games, agreed a one-year extension to his current deal, which was due to end in the summer.
Significant strike
The club hurried to guarantee his future at The Valley until the end of next season after his strike against Liverpool FC on Monday gave Charlton their first win at Anfield in 50 years. Bartlett has so far scored five league goals from ten starts despite missing four months with an ankle injury. Promising central defender Michael Turner has also signed a contract that will keep him at the club until 2006.
Middlesbrough duo
Staying in England, defenders Ugo Ehiogu and Colin Cooper have agreed new deals at Middlesbrough FC. English international Ehiogu, 31, will sign a two-year contract extension while Cooper, 37, has been handed a new one-year deal. Cooper was recalled from a loan spell at Sunderland AFC to play in the goalless draw against Chelsea FC last Saturday and could make his 400th appearance for Middlesbrough at Wolverhampton Wanderers FC this weekend.
Free agent
North of the border, Rangers FC have signed a pre-contract agreement with Trinidad and Tobago defender Marvin Andrews. The 28-year-old's contract with Livingston FC expires
at the end of the season and he will be free to move to Rangers at that point.
Financial problems
Andrews could form half of a new central defence partnership at Ibrox alongside French international Jean-Alain Boumsong, who will also be joining Rangers in the summer from AJ Auxerre. Livingstone have until 31 May to come out of administration before incurring a ten-point penalty from the Scottish Premier League.
Rajcomar move
In the Netherlands, FC Utrecht have signed Prince Rajcomar from second division side SC Fortuna Sittard. The 18-year-old striker has agreed a three-year contract with an option for another season, and will join team-mate Samir El Gaaouiri at Utrecht.
