Article body
Johnny Petersen has resigned as coach of Herfølge BK, paving the way for former Danish international Allan Nielsen to take the reins.
Petersen stands down
Petersen was due to step down in the summer to allow Nielsen, his assistant and player-coach, to take over, along with his former Denmark team-mate Michael Schjønberg.
New ideas needed
However, after a run of disappointing results which has left the club just five points above the relegation zone, Petersen decided to go now. Nielsen has taken immediate command at the club and his first game is on Sunday away to FC København.
Contract cancelled
"I have not been kicked out, I have simply asked to have the rest of my contract cancelled, as I felt I could not get any further in the job, and I thought that the squad deserved a new coach now," Petersen said.
