Fenerbahçe make no mistake

Fenerbahçe SK won the Turkish Super League title on Sunday after Trabzonspor suffered a shock loss.

Victory surge
The victory meant the Istanbul side opened up an unassailable five-point gap at the top of the standings with one round to play. The visitors never looked like conceding the initiative against their hosts after Pierre van Hooijdonk put them ahead early on. Two goals from Tuncay Sanli, either side of one from captain Ümit Özat, completed the rout.

Race over
Recent cup winners Trabzonspor's home defeat by Galatasaray meant they were unable to take the race for the championship to the wire. The hosts were beaten by two goals from Necati Ates and further strikes from Murat Erdogan and Suat Usta. Galatasaray could even afford to play the last nine minutes with ten men following the dismissal of Ovidiu Petre. Erdinç Yavuz and Mehmet Yilmaz scored for Trabzonspor.

Sweet revenge
Former Besiktas JK strikers Orhan Kaynak and Oktay Derelioglu were responsible for handing a 2-0 defeat to their old club as the Istanbul side were brushed off by Akçaabat Sebatspor. The home cause was hampered by Okan Koç's 53rd-minute sending off. Third-bottom Bursaspor, meanwhile, collected a valuable three points from a timely 3-0 away defeat of mid-table Diyarbakirspor.

Relegation matters
Bursapsor are seeking to avoid the last remaining relegation berth along with Sebatspor, Rizespor, who lost 2-1 to hosts Samsunspor, and Istanbulspor AS - 3-0 home winners against Gençlerbirligi SK. Adanaspor AS, who beat MKE Ankaragücü 2-1 away on Saturday and Elazigspor, edged out 2-1 by guests Gaziantepspor, are already relegated. Elsewhere, Tayfun Türkmen slammed in a hat-trick as travelling Konyaspor overcame Malatyaspor 3-1.
