Volkan makes Fenerbahçe promise

Turkey goalkeeper Volkan Demirel has agreed a three-year contract extension with champions Fenerbahçe SK.

Turkish international goalkeeper Volkan Demirel has agreed a three-year contract extension with Fenerbahçe SK.

International debut
Volkan's current deal was set to expire this summer, but he has now agreed to stay at the side he joined from second division Kartalspor in 2002, replacing the FC Barcelona-bound Rüstü Reçber. The 22-year-old's form in helping Fenerbahçe to this season's league title earned Volkan an international debut in April against Belgium and he has been capped twice more since.

Ambitious
After winning the league last season, Demirel is looking forward to UEFA Champions League football with Fenerbahçe. He said: "I want to play for Fenerbahçe for a long time and help the club to their deserved place. Last year we gave a promise, and that was winning the title.

Kept promise
"We kept that promise. Now, we want some success in the Champions League and will do our utmost to make it real." Board member Ilhan Eksioglu said: "He is a player who will serve Fenerbahçe for many, many years."
