Training collision sidelines Lauth

Hamburger SV's €4.3m summer signing Benjamin Lauth has been ruled out for four more weeks.

Winning goal
The €4.3m recruit from TSV 1860 München made his Hamburg debut in the German club's third match of the season, coming on as a substitute to score the winner in a 4-3 victory against 1. FC Nürnberg. Lauth had been unable to participate in the opening two Bundesliga games as he recovered from the broken foot which prevented him from travelling to UEFA EURO 2004™.

Collision in training
His latest injury is also to his left foot, sustained in a training-ground collision with goalkeeper Martin Pieckenhagen on Friday. Hamburg doctor Gerold Schwarz said "surgery cannot be ruled out" if the bones do not respond to treatment. "I can only hope for a quick recovery," said the player.

International return
Lauth has not featured under new Germany coach Jürgen Klinsmann but had hoped to return for the 2006 FIFA World Cup hosts' next friendly in Iran on 9 October. The visit of Cameroon to Leipzig on 17 November now seems a more likely date for his international comeback.
