Scotland's three European hopefuls all won at the weekend, but it was Kilmarnock FC striker Kris Boyd who grabbed the headlines with five goals at Rugby Park to equal the Scottish Premier League scoring record.
Goalscoring record
The Scottish Under-21 international scored all his side's goals in a 5-2 win against Dundee United FC, to equal the feat shared by Paul Sturrock, Marco Negri and Kenny Miller. The 21-year-old, who had hitherto hit the net just once this season, could have had a sixth too, but the effort was disallowed for a push. The win sees Kilmarnock move up to fifth.
Camara double
Another in-form striker, Henri Camara, was also on target as Celtic FC convincingly beat Dunfermline Athletic FC 3-0 in Glasgow. After centre-back Stanislav Varga had opened the scoring on 20 minutes, the Senegalese forward scored his fourth and fifth goal of the season either side of half-time to maintain Celtic's unbeaten start to the season and give them the perfect send-off ahead of their UEFA Champions League Group F encounter against AC Milan on Wednesday.
Novo return
City rivals Rangers FC moved up to second place after Nacho Novo came back to haunt his former club Dundee FC on Sunday. The game looked to be heading for a draw at Dens Park until Novo came off the substitutes' bench to score a late double. Scotland's other UEFA Cup hopefuls, Heart of Midlothian FC, also took three points with a 1-0 win against Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC at Tynecastle. Midfield player Paul Hartley's early goal settled the game to keep the away team rooted to the bottom of the table.
Hibernian win
Hibernian FC also won by a solitary goal as they subjected Aberdeen FC to their first league defeat of the season at Pittodrie. Derek Riordan scored what proved to be the winning goal on 62 minutes in front of Scotland manager Berti Vogts, who could include the 21-year-old in his squad for the forthcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Norway and Moldova.
Motherwell comeback
Elsewhere, Motherwell FC came from behind to beat Livingston FC 3-2. After late first-half goals from Burton O'Brien and Jim Hamilton had overturned Kevin McBride's early opener, Terry Butcher's side were reinvigorated after the interval and Scott McDonald and Ritchie Foran were both on target as the team stretched their unbeaten run to seven games.
