Jol handed Tottenham job

Members

Tottenham Hotspur FC have appointed Martin Jol as their new coach following Jacques Santini's departure.

'Privileged' position
"Tottenham are a big club and I feel very privileged to be their coach," the new man said. "It is still early in the season, I know the players and they know me and I feel strongly that there is a lot we can achieve together."

English experience
The 48-year-old, who played in England with West Bromwich Albion FC and Coventry City FC in the 1980s, was Santini's assistant but has stepped up after the former France coach quit for personal reasons on Friday. Jol took charge of the team on a temporary basis on Saturday when they lost 3-2 at home to London rivals Charlton Athletic FC.

'Very capable'
Sporting director Frank Arnesen said: "Martin Jol is very capable. I know his performance over the past 15 years as head coach of different clubs. I am very happy we have him in this situation." Former Dutch international Jol joined the staff at White Hart Lane in the summer after five years as coach of RKC Waalwijk.
