FC Lokomotiv Moskva striker Dmitri Sychev has been named 2004 Russian Player of the Year in the 41st annual poll by weekly newspaper Football.

Goalscoring feats
The Russian international won the vote among 240 football writers, after being placed first by 63 experts, second by 56 and third in 34 ballots. That gave him a total of 335 points in a year when he scored 15 Premier League goals as Lokomotiv regained the championship from PFC CSKA Moskva. He also took his international goals tally into double figures with just 21 caps on the board.

Lima honour
FC Zenit St. Peterburg forward Aleksandr Kerzhakov finished second with 220 points, while his striking partner Andrei Arshavin ended up third with 202 after their club's thwarted tilt at the league title. Lokomotiv midfielder Francisco Lima was named the best foreign player in Russia, having finished sixth in the overall poll. CSKA had eleven players mentioned in the voting, while nine Lokomotiv squad members were nominated.
