The 52-year-old took charge at the Luigi Ferraris stadium in 2002 and immediately led Sampdoria to promotion to Serie A. Last season, the Genoa club finished fifth to qualify for the 2005/06 UEFA Cup. The former AC Milan player has also coached AC Perugia, AC Venezia, SSC Napoli and Piacenza FC.
