Duisburg fire troubled Meier

Members

MSV Duisburg have sacked coach Norbert Meier, who yesterday was suspended by the German Football Association for allegedly assaulting an opposition player.

DFB investigation
The 47-year-old, whose skirmish with 1. FC Köln's Albert Streit is now the subject of a DFB disciplinary inquiry, was removed from his post following the ban preventing Meier coaching his players or leading the team at matches. Assistant coach Heiko Scholz has been named caretaker manager.

Head-butting incident
Meier is alleged to have head-butted Streit during Duisburg's 1-1 home draw with Köln on Tuesday. Both coach and player were sent off after the incident, which ended with the older man on the floor. Meier leaves Duisburg with the club lying second from bottom in the Bundesliga.
