Evra move 'fantastic for United'

French international left-back Patrice Evra has sealed his reported €8m move to Manchester United FC, much to the delight of manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

'Good age'
"He is a good age and is still developing as a player, which is always exciting," Ferguson said after the 24-year-old finalised the terms of his three-and-a-half year contract at Old Trafford today. "We have been monitoring him all season and it is fantastic that he is joining Manchester United." He becomes the second new face in January after the arrival of centre-back Nemanja Vidić.

Heinze absence
Evra, who has said he turned down past approaches by Real Madrid CF, FC Internazionale Milano and United's Premiership rivals Arsenal FC and Liverpool FC, will help fill the gap left by Gabriel Heinze, who is out for the season with a serious knee injury. His debut could come in tomorrow's League Cup semi-final first leg against Blackburn Rovers FC.
