Article summary
Deportivo Alavés have relieved Chuchi Cos of his head-coach duties after a disappointing season that has seen them struggle in the Primera División.
Article body
Resignation accepted
Cos, who was reinstated in August after previously agreeing to step aside to become a sports consultant at the Vitoria-based club, had his resignation accepted by chairman Dimitri Piterman. Alavés have taken just 12 points from 18 league games. Assistant coach Juan Carlos Oliva is in temporary charge, while Jordi García, another member of the coaching staff, has been sacked.
New role
The final straw was last night's 2-0 home defeat by Real Zaragoza. The 37-year-old Cos, who led Alavés to promotion last season, will not leave the club, however, instead becoming technical secretary to continue his long partnership with Ukrainian businessman Piterman. The pair worked together at Real Racing Club Santander in 2003, having previously been in tandem at lower division side Palamós CF.
