AZ Alkmaar have signed Julian Jenner and David Mendes da Silva from Dutch Eredivisie rivals NAC Breda as they prepare for UEFA Cup football in the autumn.
Five-year contracts
The pair have penned five-year contracts with AZ after leaving NAC for an undisclosed fee. The 22-year-old Jenner is a former Dutch youth international and Feyenoord trainee who made his league debut for NAC against AZ on 1 May 2004. Mendes da Silva is a 23-year-old utility man who joined NAC in 2004 after five seasons at Sparta Rotterdam, which included a loan spell with AFC Ajax.
Squad vacancies
"We needed reinforcing on the right wing and that is why we bought Julian Jenner," said AZ technical director Marcel Brands. "We have also been impressed by David Mendes da Silva for a long time. He is one of those players who can play in several positions - in defence, midfield or even up front."
