Brazilian Adriano finished from Zlatan Ibrahimović's long ball after 71 minutes before substitute Córdoba doubled his side's advantage in added time. The Serie A leaders were denied a first-half lead when Patrick Vieira's header was nodded off the line by Empoli defender Lino Marzoratti. UC Sampdoria play host to AC Chievo Verona and AS Roma entertain Parma FC in Wednesday's first legs while Serie B strugglers Arezzo Calcio visit AC Milan in their quarter-final first leg on Thursday. The second legs take place next Wednesday and Thursday.
