BV Borussia Dortmund have announced their second summer signing with Giovanni Federico set to join the club from 2. Bundesliga leaders Karlsruher SC.

Prolific scorer
The 26-year-old attacking midfielder's contract at Karlsruher expires in the summer and he has committed himself to his new club until summer 2010. Federico is the second new offensive player to join Dortmund following the capture of Wisla Kraków's Polish international winger Jakub Blaszczykowski. "Giovanni Federico is a very dangerous player who can score and who can play various positions in attack," said Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc.

Local boy
A German with an Italian passport, Federico is the top scorer in the second division in Germany with 13 goals this season. Born in nearby Hagen, he was a boyhood Dortmund supporter, but joined Karlsruher following a spell at 1. FC Köln in 2003/04. "It's a childhood dream has come true," he said. "I am really looking forward to being at Dortmund and I want to get established in the Bundesliga."
