Real Zaragoza forward Ewerthon has ended his loan spell at VfB Stuttgart to join RCD Espanyol for the remainder of the season as cover for the injured Raúl Tamudo.
Ewerthon deal
Espanyol captain Raúl Tamudo has been ruled out for two months with a broken left arm, and the Barcelona side have elected to bring in a replacement, with Brazilian Ewerthon agreeing to curtail his spell in Germany to return to Spain. Under the terms of the deal, Espanyol will be paying 35 per cent of the 26-year-old's wages for the remainder of the season.
'We can function'
Sporting director Paco Herrera said: "Our only available strikers are Luis García and Jonathan Soriano and the team needed another forward. With Ewerthon we now know we can function until the end of the season." Ewerthon joined Zaragoza in 2005 after four seasons at BV Borussia Dortmund and scored 18 goals in 65 Primera División games before being loaned to Stuttgart in the summer. He scored just once in eleven league appearances on his return to the Bundesliga.
