Ewerthon all smiles in Stuttgart

Ewerthon has become the third Brazilian to join the Bundesliga in four days after agreeing a loan move to German champions VfB Stuttgart from Real Zaragoza.

Bundesliga return
Ewerthon, who played in the Bundesliga for BV Borussia Dortmund from 2001 to 2005 and scored 45 goals in 119 league matches, has joined up with his new team-mates at their pre-season training camp in Austria after passing a medical with the UEFA Champions League hopefuls. The 26-year-old, who has been capped six times by Brazil, has spent the past two seasons at Zaragoza, where he registered 18 goals in 65 Primera División appearances.

Everyone happy
"It's a dream to be able to play in the Champions League for the German champions in the new season," Ewerthon said. "I'll do all I can to help Stuttgart continue their recent success." Stuttgart have an option to make the move permanent, should all go well, much to the delight of coach Armin Veh. "Ewerthon is fast, agile, scores goals and is a perfect fit for us," he said. "He'll make our attack more flexible. It was very important for us to get a striker who can play in a 4-4-2 as well as a 4-3-3 formation."

Other moves
On Friday, Ailton returned to Germany where he was the league's top scorer in 2004, signing a one-year deal with MSV Duisburg from FK Crvena Zvezda while Werder Bremen, Ailton's former club, signed his compatriot Carlos Alberto in a €7.8m deal on Saturday, the most expensive in the German club's history. Stuttgart begin their assault on the UEFA Champions League in September's group stage after winning the 2006/07 German title.
