England have had a typically thrilling run to the UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2009™ final and are aiming to secure a first win in 19 attempts against Germany in Thursday's decider to take the title. Playmaker Kelly Smith gives uefa.com her exclusive guide to the squad that has got them to today's Helsinki showpiece. For full player profiles click here and then on the individual names.
1 Rachel Brown (goalkeeper, Everton LFC, 29)
Very vocal player, demanding high standards of her back line. Kept us in this tournament with a world-class save against Finland, and is a key member of our team.
2 Alex Scott (defender, Boston Breakers, 24)
Scotty is very versatile in her play. Very fast, aggressive, I call her the Energiser Bunny because she can run all day. She's so effective coming from deep, teams don't know whether to pick her up or not because she's overlapping so much.
3 Casey Stoney (defender, Chelsea LFC, 27)
Casey is a strong, versatile player that can play right-back, left-back or centre-back. She's a big part of why we've got to where we're at and a big player on this team.
4 Fara Williams (midfielder, Everton LFC, 25)
She's our anchor player in midfield. She likes to get the ball up and distribute it, making the play. She's very technical and comes up with her fair share of goals from midfield.
5 Lindsay Johnson (defender, Everton LFC, 29)
An out-and-out defender, very good and can mark players out of the game. Her speed is one of her main assets and she has great aerial ability.
6 Anita Asante (defender, Sky Blue FC, 24)
Anita is the ice woman of the team, she's so calm and composed at the back. She's very technically gifted and reads the game very well. For me she is one of the best defenders in the world.
7 Karen Carney (midfielder, Chicago Red Stars, 22)
Kaz is great to play with. She's a player I look to on the pitch; she inspires me by her determination and will to win. She's another one that's technically gifted and can play with both feet. She's just very good on the ball.
8 Katie Chapman (midfielder, Arsenal LFC, 27)
Katie does a lot of the work that people don't like to do. A box-to-box player, very physical. A lot of her work goes unnoticed but not to her team-mates. We really appeciate the work she does on the pitch.
9 Eniola Aluko (forward, Saint Louis Athletica, 22)
I think playing in America has definitely evolved her game. She's so fast that she leaves defenders scared about her pace. And she's come up with her fair share of goals to get us where we are in this tournament.
10 Kelly Smith (forward, Boston Breakers, 30)
11 Sue Smith (midfielder, Leeds Carnegie LFC, 29)
Sue has done so well. After not making our World Cup team she's bounced back to make this squad and obviously start the majority of the games. She has flair, skill and she's very good at crossing.
12 Jill Scott (midfielder, Everton LFC, 22)
Jill's our Peter Crouch. She's very tall and agile, another box-to-box player. Great in the air, wins all the battles for us in midfield.
13 Siobhan Chamberlain (goalkeeper, Chelsea LFC, 26)
Another goalkeeper. Very good shot-stopper, her game's developed a lot since being involved with the national team.
14 Faye White (defender, Arsenal LFC, 31)
Faye leads by example. She's very professional in her approach. She puts her body on the line every time she plays, obviously from her injuries, that tells it's own story. My room-mate and a good friend.
15 Rachel Unitt (defender, Everton LFC, 27)
A great squad member to have around. She played against Italy and Russia and did her job. Has a great left foot.
16 Jody Handley (striker, Everton LFC, 30)
Jody holds the ball up well for us. A vital part of this squad and has contributed really well.
17 Lianne Sanderson (striker, Chelsea LFC, 21)
A good centre forward, a good target player, who holds the ball up well. Scores her fair share of goals in the Premier League. Probably would like more playing time – that's due to Eniola – but Lianne is a real prospect.
18 Emily Westwood (midfielder, Everton LFC, 25)
Woody can play in a number of positions. She's played at centre-half, in the midfield and up front. She's very versatile, very good in the air, and also very skilful and tricky with her feet.
19 Laura Bassett (defender, Arsenal LFC, 26)
Can play at right-back and centre-back. So she's another versatile player that we have, another one that reads the game well. Is very physical in her play. Plays simple, but is effective.
20 Danielle Buet (midfielder, Chelsea LFC, 20)
Dani is called Paul Scholes, because she looks like him. The youngster that's come into the squad, proud of her achievement to get here, to make this squad. She's a vital member of the party, gives everything in training, and she's a player to watch for the future.
21 Jessica Clarke (midfielder, Leeds Carnegie LFC, 20)
Jess likewise is a late addition to this squad. Very pacy winger, likes to attack defenders, gets in behind, very tricky with the ball at her feet. Another one to watch.
22 Karen Bardsley (goalkeeper, Sky Blue FC, 24)
KB has done wonders to get herself here after only making one appearance in the build-up to the tournament. Played against Denmark and staked her claim for a reserve spot as a goalie on the team.
