Article body
Panathinaikos retained their 100 per cent start to the season with a 1-0 win at Apollon Kalamarias FC, but Olympiacos CFP succumbed to their first defeat of the season.
Narrow win
Panathinaikos were unable to repeat the three goals they scored in their previous two games and had to settle for a lone Dimitris Papadopoulos goal in a 1-0 win against newly promoted Kalamarias. The visitors could, and probably should, have added more but wasted numerous opportunities to extend their lead.
Olympiacos loss
The victory nevertheless took the side two points clear of their nearest rivals after the other two teams that started the weekend alongside them both lost. Olympiacos took a 1-0 lead against Xanthi FC through Georgios Georgiadis after excellent work by Rivaldo and Ioannis Okkasset. But Xanthi equalized just after half-time, before a brilliant lob from Stavros Lambriakos with 20 minutes remaining sealed a 2-1 win.
Derby match
Iraklis FC also dropped their first points of the season with a 1-0 defeat by PAOK Thessaloniki. Armand Guy Feutchine scored the only goal of the game in first-half injury time to give the home side the win over their local rivals. The visitors had the better of the game but were unable to convert any of their chances.
Athenian triumph
Those results allowed AEK Athens and Egaleo FC to move into second, on seven points, after both sides won. AEK beat Panionios 2-0 at home with two goals from Alesandro Soares depsite Nikos Liberopoulos missing a penalty. Georgios Barkoglou had more joy elsewhere in Athens when his successful spot-kick helped Egaleo to a 1-0 win against Ionikos FC. The games between Ergotelis and Aris, and Kerkyra and OFI Crete both ended 1-1.
Halkidona win
The highest scoring game of the weekend came at Halkidona FC, where the home side eased to 4-2 victory against Kallithea FC, thanks, in large part, to a Georgios Zaharopoulos hat-trick. The side's captain opened the scoring from the penalty spot on three minutes and although Georgios Savidis equalised with a free-kick four minutes later, a goal from Anderson Lima Freitas regained the lead on the half hour. Zaharopoulos then scored twice either side of a Theofanis Gekas penalty to lift his side into fourth.
