Basinas double
Panathinaikos top the table after a 3-1 win against Xanthi FC but the game started badly for the champions who conceded a goal after just two minutes when Deniz Baikara gave the visitors a shock lead. Fifteen minutes later, Panathinaikos regained parity when Greek international Angelos Basinas struck from 30 metres. By the 22nd minute, Rudolf Skacel had made it 2-1 and Basinas sealed the win with another long-range effort, this time courtesy of a heavy deflection.
Iraklis return home
Olympiacos beat Aris Thessaloniki FC, but they had to wait until almost the hour-mark before Brazilian Giovanni gave them the lead. By that time Aris were down to ten men after Avraam Papadopoulos was dismissed. Iraklis also won by a solitary goal against Halkidona FC. The game marked the team's return to their renovated ground after a two-year absence, and they marked the occasion with a terrific goal after Marcin Mieczel converted following Edwin Muratti's brilliant run.
AEK in fourth
AEK Athens FC lie fourth after handing newly promoted Kerkyra FC their second successive defeat. Fernando Santos's side won 2-0 but the scoreline could have been much more emphatic. AEK took the lead on 43 minutes from a Ivan Rusev free-kick and two minutes from full-time substitute Leonidas Kabantais sealed the three points. Panionios NFC were also 2-0 winners, against PAOK FC, while Ionikos beat Apollon Kalamarias FC by the same score.
New boys suffer
It has been a bad start for all the promoted sides and the third of them, Ergotelis FC, now lie bottom after losing 3-0 at Kallithea FC. Radislav Dragisevic, Theofanis Gekas and Vassilis Karatzas were the scorers. Elsewhere, Egaleo FC won 1-0 at OFI Crete FC thanks to a headed goal by Anestis Agritis after 71 minutes.
