Dado Prso struck twice in AS Monaco's 3-1 defeat of FC Girondins de Bordeaux.

Dado Prso hit a double for AS Monaco as FC Girondins de Bordeaux were overpowered 3-1 in Le Championnat on Wednesday night.

Penalty converted
The Croatian striker opened the scoring in the 15th minute from the penalty spot after he was felled in the box by Alain Roche. Eight minutes later Prso had scored his second, converting from close range after being found by Alex Nyarko. Fellow striker Wagneau Eloi, Monaco's man of the match, added the third in the 35th minute with a powerful 25-metre shot from the left edge of the penalty area.

Gap closed
Pauleta scored with a curling free-kick from the edge of the box to give Bordeaux some hope two minutes before half-time but neither side could add to their tally in the second half. Monaco are now just two points behind the visitors in the table.

Leaders move further ahead
RC Lens moved eight points clear at the top of the table after an impressive 2-0 win away at FC Sochaux-Montbéliard but third-placed Paris Saint-Germain FC were the big winners on Wednesday night. Goals from Frédéric Déhu, Fabrice Fiorèse, Ronaldinho and two for Jérôme Leroy ensured a 5-0 win for PSG at home against FC Lorient. The Parisians stay ten points behind Lens but are now just two points behind second-placed Olympique Lyonnais.

Le Roux double
Stade Rennais FC are off the bottom after leapfrogging Lorient with an excellent 2-0 win at home against Montpellier Hérault SC. Christophe Le Roux scored both goals on 18 and 36 minutes. AJ Auxerre were 1-0 winners at home to SC Bastia, who had to play the whole of the second half with ten men after Sebastien Piocelle's 44th-minute dismissal. Djibril Cissé scored the only goal of the game in the 76th minute.

Guingamp nick it
En Avant Guingamp won an important relegation encounter 4-2 at FC Metz to move four points clear of their rivals. Didier Drogba and Auriol Guillaume each scored while Hakim Saki added a late double to make it a marvellous night for Guingamp. Geoffrey Toyes and Frédéric Meyrieu were on the scoresheet for Metz.

Alfonso hits two
Olympique de Marseille had Alfonso Pérez to thank for their 2-1 success over CS Sedan-Ardennes. The Spanish striker, on loan from FC Barcelona, scored a goal in each half to give his club all three points, despite Julien Poueys' late reply for Sedan. Wednesday's final match saw French Cup holders RC Strasbourg, relegated last season to the second division, beat first division visitors ES Troyes Aube Champagne 1-0 at the Stade de la Meinau thanks to an extra-time penalty from Teddy Bertin. Strasbourg are now through to the last 16.
