Manchester City FC have agreed to sign €20.5m Paris Saint-Germain FC striker Nicolas Anelka.

Manchester City FC have agreed terms to sign Paris Saint-Germain FC striker Nicolas Anelka in a €20.5m move as they look to strengthen ahead of their return to the FA Premiership.

Liverpool loan spell
Anelka, omitted from France's FIFA World Cup squad, spent the latter part of the 2001/02 season on loan at Liverpool FC but the Anfield club decided against purchasing the former Arsenal FC and Real Madrid CF forward. The clubs hope to finalise the transfer after Anelka's weekend medical, with Cameroon defender Lucien Mettomo moving to Paris as part of a deal which doubles City's previous record fee.

Second striker to sign
City are also hoping to complete the €6.3m signing of 22-year-old Argentinian striker Matias Vuoso from CA Independiente, with the striker set to travel to England on Saturday to sign a four-year contract, subject to a medical on Monday. Goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel and defender Sylvain Distin have already arrived at Maine Road.
