Arsenal FC's superb English Premiership run continued on Sunday with a 3-1 victory against Sunderland AFC.
Kanu double
Nwankwo Kanu scored twice in the first ten minutes, and Patrick Vieira added another before half-time to extend Arsenal's unbeaten Premiership run to 30 games, and keep their lead at two points. Jody Craddock scored eight minutes from time for Sunderland, who had goalkeeper Thomas Sørensen taken to hospital with a suspected dislocated elbow.
Owen winner
Michael Owen scored an 89th-minute winner for second-placed Liverpool FC as they beat Chelsea FC 1-0 at Anfield. The visitors thought they had gained a point three days after their shock UEFA Cup exit to Norway's Viking FK, but Owen was quickest to the rebound after Emile Heskey's late shot was tipped on to the post by Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini.
Redknapp joy
Tottenham Hotspur FC also needed a last-gasp goal to overcome Blackburn Rovers FC 2-1. Robbie Keane had given Tottenham an early lead with his first goal for the club, and although Egil Ostenstad levelled for Blackburn during the second half, a Jamie Redknapp miskick in the final minute looped in over Brad Friedel to seal the points for Spurs.
Sava gets goal
Fulham FC beat struggling Charlton Athletic FC 1-0 in the day's London derby thanks to a 36th-minute Facundo Sava goal, while Leeds United AFC returned from their UEFA Cup tie in Ukraine on Thursday to draw 0-0 at Aston Villa FC.
