Article body
VfB Stuttgart put their UEFA Cup disappointment behind them with an emphatic 4-0 victory over VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach on Sunday.
Celtic defeat
Stuttgart have their work cut out to reach the UEFA Cup quarter-finals after slipping to a 3-1 first-leg defeat against Celtic FC on Thursday. However, they continued their challenge at the top of the 1. Bundesliga with a four-goal showing against struggling Mönchengladbach and are now up to third in the table, a point behind BV Borussia Dortmund in second.
Kuranyi double
Kevin Kuranyi gave Stuttgart a flying start with the opening goal after just nine minutes, before Ioannis Amanatidis doubled the lead 14 minutes later. The victory was completed with two goals in the space of a minute late on from substitute Ioan Ganea and a second for Kuranyi.
Hertha held
In the day's other game, Hertha BSC Berlin showed little of the spirit against DSC Arminia Bielefeld demanded by coach Huub Stevens following their 3-2 UEFA Cup victory over Boavista FC. Hertha shored up their problems at the back against mid-table Arminia but looked toothless in attack and are now sixth in the standings.
