With increased investment, expanded fan engagement and a strong commitment to building a sustainable legacy, UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 is set to build on the rapid growth of the women's game in recent years.
The expected social and economic impact has been outlined in the pre-tournament impact report, commissioned by UEFA and delivered by EY.
The findings are based on a review of existing plans and budgets provided by UEFA, the Swiss Football Association (SFA), host city authorities and the Swiss federal government, alongside insights from comparable events and discussions with tournament stakeholders.
UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin, said: “The impact of Women’s EURO 2025 extends far beyond the competition itself. With record prize money and unprecedented interest from sponsors, the tournament will bring more investment into the women's game than ever before. Additionally, significant funding has been dedicated to legacy projects in Switzerland, ensuring that the benefits of hosting extend well beyond the final whistle.”
Dominique Blanc, President of the Swiss Football Association, said: “The country will quickly take another big step forward thanks to the joy and excitement for this tournament. We have developed a sustainability plan in collaboration with the government and regional associations, which will secure the event’s legacy. We want to double the number of female players, to 80,000, as well as the number of female coaches and referees. In addition, we also want to significantly increase the number of women represented across all levels of football’s governmental bodies.”
Fan reach and economic impact
UEFA Women's EURO 2022 achieved a record attendance of nearly 575,000, more than doubling the attendance in the Netherlands in 2017.
The aim is for the record to be broken yet again at Women's EURO 2025 by selling all 673,000 available tickets. There has been strong interest in the tournament so far – and as of May 2025, more than 550,000 tickets had been sold.
High attendance levels will offer significant economic benefits to Switzerland and the eight host cities.
An overall attendance of 550,000, with roughly 137,000 international ticket sales, is expected to deliver CHF 180m of economic activity to the Swiss economy, while an attendance of 600,000, with 180,000 international ticket sales, is expected to deliver CHF 193m.
The professional game and grassroots development
With a record €41m in prize money and players receiving a guaranteed share from their national associations for the first time, Women's EURO 2025 will also be a catalyst for progress in the professional game across Europe.
The tournament's legacy plan will also accelerate the growth of elite women's football in Switzerland. By strengthening the standards and visibility of the Swiss national women's league, the ambition is to double the number of spectators attending matches at stadiums each year from 75,000 to 150,000 by 2027.
Grassroots football is also expected to receive a major boost. The ambition is to increase the number of women and girls playing in Switzerland from 40,000 to 80,000, as well as establish new pathways for coaches and referees.
Beyond the pitch, the tournament is offering 2,500 volunteer opportunities, allowing participants to gain valuable skills in leadership, teamwork, and communication.
Remaining tickets are available from €25 on womenseuro.com. Ticket holders travelling within Switzerland will benefit from free public transport on matchday for a second-class round trip between any Swiss locality and the match venue.
