During his visit, the president attended presentations highlighting football’s growing popularity across Wales – with a particular focus on the remarkable rise of the women’s and girls’ game, which is now the country’s most popular team sport.

He also visited the Senedd, the Welsh parliament, where he met with first minister Eluned Morgan and FAW chief executive Noel Mooney. Their discussions centred on the vital role football and sport play in promoting health and well-being across communities – a shared priority for both UEFA and the FAW.

All parties expressed their enthusiasm for the upcoming UEFA EURO 2028 tournament, particularly the excitement building around Cardiff’s hosting of the opening match.
