We are proud to unveil the fifth module of our Take Care programme – road safety – reinforcing football’s unique role in promoting health and well-being across society, both on and off the pitch.
Developed in collaboration with the Office of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety (UN SSERS), this new module builds on our long-standing support for global road safety initiatives.
Getting to the stadium safely
Every day, millions of people travel to matches and training sessions as players, coaches, volunteers, fans or family members. Through this module, we aim to raise awareness, encourage responsible travel and create safer environments around football activities. Whether it’s matchday mobility, youth training sessions, or everyday commuting, football has the reach and influence to make road safety a shared priority.
"UEFA is proud to strengthen our commitment with the United Nations to spotlight road safety through our Take Care campaign," said Michele Uva, executive director of Social & Environmental Sustainability. "Our goal is to promote responsible travel within the football community and beyond, helping save lives and build a safer society."
"I am grateful for UEFA’s longstanding partnership and its commitment to raising awareness about road safety through the Take Care programme. Far too many young lives are lost on the world’s roads each year. While we urgently need stronger action from governments and businesses, every individual also has a responsibility. I appreciate that UEFA is using its platform to highlight the simple steps each of us can take to stay safe and save lives."
Featuring Mick Schumacher and Ousmane Dembélé
Every year, road traffic accidents claim over 1.2 million lives and leave 50 million people injured – many with life-changing disabilities. For young people, it’s the leading cause of injury and death.
These numbers are more than statistics – they’re a call to action. Prevention is essential. Safer roads, responsible driving and awareness can save lives.
Our new road safety documentary, narrated by Oscar winner and UNDP goodwill ambassador Michelle Yeoh, brings this urgent issue to life. It features 2025 Ballon d’Or and UEFA Champions League winner Ousmane Dembélé, as well as racing driver Mick Schumacher who share their voices to raise awareness and inspire change.
The module launch event also included a panel discussion featuring an exclusive interview with Jean Todt.
"Speed is something that has always been part of my life on the racetrack. I know what can go wrong. Speed limits are there for a reason. They're there to keep the environment in which you are moving safe."
Tools for a healthier life
Take Care is an educational initiative dedicated to enhancing health and well-being awareness among children and young people, encouraging them to adopt responsible habits and actions. It equips children and young people, as well as the key influencers in their lives – parents, caregivers, teachers, coaches, and staff – with the tools to adopt and integrate healthy lifestyle habits.
