Walter Samuel's early goal handed ten-man FC Internazionale Milano the spoils against stuttering AC Milan in Sunday's much-anticipated derby, while Juventus and SSC Napoli both maintained their unbeaten starts.

It took Inter just three minutes to increase the pressure on Rossoneri coach Massimiliano Allegri, Walter Samuel sliding in at the back post to head an Esteban Cambiasso free-kick high into the net. Diego Milito then spurned two excellent chances to increase the lead, but the momentum shifted after Yuto Nagatomo collected his second yellow card three minutes into the second half. Try as they might, though, Milan could not conjure an equaliser and slipped to their fourth defeat in seven Serie A games.

Inter lie fourth, meanwhile, four points behind Juventus and Napoli. Champions Juve have now gone gone 46 Serie A games without defeat and sealed a hard-earned 2-1 victory at AC Siena thanks to Claudio Marchisio's 85th-minute volley, while Napoli edged Udinese Calcio by the same margin.

As for S.S. Lazio, they are up to third thanks in part to a pair of goals from Miroslav Klose in a comfortable 3-0 success against Pescara, while city rivals AS Roma recovered from last weekend's 4-1 humbling at Juventus by easing past Atalanta BC 2-0.

ACF Fiorentina arrested a run of three games without a win as Stevan Jovetić's fifth goal of the campaign secured a 1-0 victory at home to Bologna FC. Parma FC are still stuck in a rut, however, losing 2-0 at Calcio Catania, while Cagliari Calcio are off the bottom after edging Torino FC 1-0.
