France captain Sandrine Soubeyrand has ended her international career following her team's exit from UEFA Women's EURO 2013.
Soubeyrand, hoping to win her 200th cap in the final, was instead replaced halfway through her French record 198th appearance as Les Bleues succumbed to Denmark on penalties in Linkoping. Having become the oldest player to play at a UEFA Women's EURO final tournament at 39 years and 340 days, Soubeyrand confirmed her decision after the game.
"Obviously, it's the end of my career," the FCF Juvisy Essonne midfielder said. "I don't like speaking about myself and tonight despair dominates in the squad."
Soubeyrand registered 13 goals since making her debut on 12 April 1997, and helped France to the semi-finals of the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup and 2012 Olympics. It remains unclear whether she will play on for Juvisy.
