FC Bayern München are reeling from the news that Arjen Robben is set to be sidelined "for several weeks" after tearing an abdominal muscle, according to sporting director Matthias Sammer.

The Netherlands forward picked up the problem during his side's 2-0 Bundesliga loss to VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach, and he now looks set to miss Bayern's UEFA Champions League quarter-final meeting with FC Porto on 15 and 21 April. "This news is at least as bad as the defeat today," said club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

The German champions were nonetheless given a boost by Thiago Alcántara's return to the squad for the first time this season following a lengthy knee injury. The Spanish midfielder spent the whole game on the bench but could prove a vital asset for Bayern after the international break.
