Ronaldo strikes new deal

Ronaldo has pledged his future to Real Madrid CF by signing a contract extension until June 2008.

Happy to extend
Madrid have exercised a clause in the player's original agreement, due to expire in two years' time, that permitted the player to stay on for an extra 12 months. However, the FIFA World Cup winner was happy to extend it by two years.

Top scorer
The 27-year-old marksman is top scorer in the Primera División this season, having found the net 22 times to help Madrid take an eight-point lead at the top. In all, he has scored 58 goals since celebrating his Madrid debut with a two-goal haul against Deportivo Alavés on 6 October 2002.

'Very settled'
The player is "thrilled" with the new arrangement. He said: "I am delighted because I am very settled here both at the club and in the city itself. The club made it clear from the start that they were keen to renew my contract and I have accepted their offer at the first chance."

Happy to stay
Ronaldo's renewal completes a series of new deals at the Santiago Bernabéu. This season the club have already agreed extensions with Michel Salgado, Raúl González, Guti and Zinedine Zidane.
