Fahrenhorst struggling for fitness

Werder Bremen defender Frank Fahrenhorst faces an unspecified period on the sidelines due to an ankle injury.

Training injury
Fahrenhorst picked up the injury in training ten days ago and has not played since. He is definitely out of tomorrow's visit to Bundesliga leaders VfB Stuttgart, and is considered doubtful for next Tuesday's UEFA Champions League Group G home match against bottom side RSC Anderlecht.

Painful swelling
It was thought initially that Fahrenhorst had sustained ligament and capsule damage, but the injury has turned out to be slightly more complicated. Scans yesterday revealed that the 27-year-old German international is suffering from a painful swelling of fluid in his right ankle, known as an oedema.
