Vålerenga braced for Gashi loss

Vålerenga IF will be without Ardian Gashi for the second leg against Club Brugge KV as he begins a short jail term.

Appeal quashed
The 24-year-old midfielder was convicted of speeding in February and handed an 18-day jail sentence, which starts today after his appeals for it to be suspended until the end of the season were rejected. That means he will not be available for the second leg against Brugge at the Jan Breydelstadion on 24 August.

Key influence
Gashi's absence will be a blow for Vålerenga, after the youngster helped inspire them to a narrow victory last night, teeing up the only goal of the game for Steffen Iversen. "I will be resting in jail for a couple of weeks and found no reason to save my strength," said Gashi, who will also miss this weekend's Tippeligaen match against Ålesunds FK.
