On hold
Having seen his career put on hold for long spells during recent seasons because of a knee injury, Inzaghi - deputising for the injured Andriy Shevchenko - scored what proved to be the decisive goal on Sunday. His diving header 13 minutes from time kept Milan in second place.
Widespread relief
After the final whistle, the striker was in jubilant mood, promising "this time I'm back for good". The relief for one of Italy's favourite sons was widespread. "Even the Palermo players came to congratulate me after the game because they understood that my nightmare was over," added Inzaghi.
Total rapture
The striker admitted that it was so long since he had scored that he had almost forgotten how to celebrate, saying: "I'm very happy. I have been dreaming about this goal and when I scored, I started to run as quick as possible. I could not understand what I was doing, it was an incredible joy."
Coach credited
He gave full credit to his coach Carlo Ancelotti, saying: "After scoring I went to hug Ancelotti because he has been close to me during my difficult period and because he was brave to field me from the start until the final whistle yesterday, considering that I hadn't played for 90 minutes for a long time."
Juventus match
Milan are now five points adrift of league leaders Juventus but they could close that gap as the two teams meet at the San Siro on Saturday. And for Inzaghi, there is no reason why Milan cannot end the reigning champions' run of eight wins from their opening eight Serie A games.
Better squad
"Juve are winning every game but I do think that our squad is better than theirs," said the former Juventus striker. "It would be great to play against Juventus, not because I want any kind of revenge against my former team, but only because it will be a great match."
