Enhanced terms
The 20-year-old's contract was due to expire in 2007, but player and club have agreed an improved deal keeping him at the Amsterdam ArenA until June 2009. Mitea has scored nine goals in 44 Eredivisie games since joining from FC Dinamo Bucuresti in August 2003.
Knee injury
However, he has been sidelined since sustaining a knee injury playing against CA Boca Juniors in last summer's Amsterdam tournament. Mitea underwent surgery to remedy damage to the medial ligaments in his right knee and has yet to return to training.
Huge potential
Nonetheless, Ajax rate Mitea as a fine prospect. "Despite his injury, Ajax have faith in Mitea's potential as a left-sided attacker," said technical director Martin van Geel. "For that reason we have extended and improved his contract."
