Opportunity knocks
Stekelenburg had been contracted to the Dutch giants until 2008, but was more than happy to commit his future to the club having played more games already this season than in each of the previous two campaigns. The 23-year-old has started 13 of Ajax's 20 Eredivisie matches to date, as well as four of their UEFA Champions League group fixtures. In all he has made 43 appearances in Amsterdam following his debut in August 2002.
