Monsoreau misery for Lyon

Olympique Lyonnais defender Sylvain Monsoreau will miss the UEFA Champions League showdown with PSV Eindhoven after tearing his right hamstring.

Long lay-off
The versatile 24-year-old had to limp out of the Stade Gerland stalemate and now faces an absence of up to six weeks after tests revealed the extent of his injury. "It is likely to involve a four to six-week lay-off," the French club said. Monsoreau, who appeared twice in the UEFA Champions League group stage following his summer move from FC Sochaux-Montbéliard, will sit out the Round of 16 matches against PSV on 21 February and 8 March.

Defensive crisis
His injury adds to Lyon coach Gérard Houllier's selection problems in defence, with captain Claudio Caçapa, international full-backs Eric Abidal and Anthony Réveillère, and Under-21 starlet Jérémy Berthod all sidelined. Lamine Diatta remains on African Cup of Nations duty with Senegal.
