Liverpool FC midfielder Mohamed Sissoko will be out for "three months" after he dislocated a shoulder in English League Cup action at Birmingham City FC.

Liverpool FC midfielder Mohamed Sissoko will be out for "three months" after dislocating a shoulder in the 1-0 English League Cup win at Birmingham City FC on Wednesday night.

'Serious injury'
The Malian international was stretchered off in the 26th minute after falling awkwardly in a challenge with a Birmingham player. After manager Rafael Benítez said "we don't know for how long he will be out, but it may be quite some time", a Liverpool official confirmed on Thursday that "he will be out of action for three months".

European absence
The 21-year-old former Valencia CF prospect, who had a long spell on the sidelines last season after sustaining a serious eye injury in UEFA Champions League action against SL Benfica, will miss Liverpool's remaining Group C games against PSV Eindhoven on 22 November and Galatasaray SK on 5 December. The first knockout round, which the Premiership team are on course to reach, is scheduled for 20 February and 7 March.
