Regueiro compounds Valencia woes

Valencia CF's injury crisis deepened today when midfielder Mario Regueiro learned he is likely to miss the rest of the season after tearing cruciate ligaments in his left knee.

Unfortunate collision
A day after Fernando Morientes was forced to withdraw from training with the recurrence of a thigh injury, coach Quique Sánchez Flores saw Regueiro stretchered off the training pitch following a collision with team-mate Rubén Baraja, who himself has only just returned to action. Tests revealed the 28-year-old Uruguayan will be out for six or seven months.

Injury concerns
Regueiro, who has featured in four of Valencia's UEFA Champions League games this season, is the latest in a long line of injuries to beset the Mestalla club this campaign. As well as Morientes, David Villa has also been suffering from a thigh complaint and limped off after only 15 minutes of his side's 1-0 defeat against Real Madrid CF on Sunday.

Edu blow
Regueiro will not be short of company in the treatment room. Edu faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering cruciate ligament damage to his right knee and David Albelda, Jaime Gavilán, Asier Del Horno, Emiliano Moretti, Luis Miguel and Carlos Marchena are also out. Valencia are through to the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League as Group D winners irrespective of their result away to AS Roma on Tuesday.
