Sun aiming to shine at PSV

Chinese international left-back Sun Xiang has joined Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven on loan from Shanghai Shenhua with a view to a permanent move.

PSV Eindhoven have confirmed that Chinese international left-back Sun Xiang has joined the club on loan from Shanghai Shenhua with a view to a permanent move.

Training camp
Stan Valckx, PSV's sporting director, announced that the 24-year-old would be joining the Dutch champions until the end of the season with the club being given the option of signing the player on a three-year contract if he proves to be a success. He may join PSV at their midwinter training camp in La Manga.

Arsenal test
Sun Xiang and his twin brother Sun Ji both had a two-week trial period at the club in November 2006 and the former will now return to strengthen Ronald Koeman's defensive options for the remainder of the season. PSV currently top the Eredivisie and take on Arsenal FC in the UEFA Champions League first knockout round next month.

Chinese first
"I have made my decision - to go," Sun said this week. "A man should take adventures. It's a kind of duty. If I go, I could become the first Chinese player in history to play in the UEFA Champions League. That would be an honour for all Chinese players, for Shanghai and for Shenhua."
