København snap up Sionko

Czech international Libor Sionko has swapped one UEFA Champions League hopeful for another in leaving Rangers FC to sign for FC København on a two-year contract.

Czech international Libor Sionko has joined Danish side FC København on a two-year contract after just one season in Scotland with Rangers FC.

'Fine impression'
The 30-year-old midfielder, who has 25 appearances and three goals for his country, played in 18 league games for the Glasgow club. Sionko made his name in his homeland with FC Baník Ostrava then AC Sparta Praha before spells in Austria with Grazer AK and FK Austria Wien. Sionko said: "I have already got a fine impression of a club that really want me and I am looking forward to playing the kind of football I like. I realise that I am joining a club with a lot of internationals in the team, but I am sure I can contribute with some experience."

European action
The Copenhagen club's sporting director, Carsten V Jensen, said: "He is a hard working, internationally experienced midfielder who likes to go forward and who will fit in very well with our way of playing." The Danish champions begin their UEFA Champions League campaign at home to Beitar Jerusalem FC in the second qualifying round on Tuesday, the same night Rangers meet FK Zeta in the same competition.
