Luis Fabiano enjoys 'historic night'

Luis Fabiano continued his free-scoring season with the second goal in the Group H defeat of Arsenal FC on what he says was "a historic night" for Sevilla FC.

After scoring another goal in a prolific season, Luis Fabiano helped Sevilla FC achieve a memorable 3-1 victory against Arsenal FC that took the Spanish side through to the last 16 in their debut UEFA Champions League season and earned him a second consecutive man of the match award from uefa.com.

'Working hard'
The 27-year-old, who has now scored 14 times in Europe and the Primera División this season, is reluctant to receive the plaudits and is wary of talk about Sevilla claiming overall glory in Europe's premier club competition. He does admit they can now be considered "potential" winners however, telling uefa.com: "It's true that we have a very talented group of players and we are working hard, which is the key reason we managed to produce a result like this one."

'Historic night'
"It's a historic night to beat such a good team as Arsenal after going a goal down and the fact is that we could have scored more because we created many, many chances. The fans got right behind us on a great night but we worked very hard both to win their trust and overcome Arsenal," he added. It was a result that moved the two-time UEFA Cup winners above their English opponents to the top of Group H with just one match, at SK Slavia Praha in two weeks' time, to come.

Scoring form
Luis Fabiano is also pleased with his own current vein of form, scoring the home side's second goal in Tuesday night's victory. He said: "Personally I'm in a great period of form right now and I'm enjoying it very much. But the same message that applies to the team also applies for me – we have to stay humble, hungry and hard working. Nothing is more important than that."

Training ground move
The forward's goal helped Sevilla take the lead after they had fallen behind to Eduardo da Silva's opener and the Brazilian was grateful for the part countrymate Daniel Alves played in the strike. "I'll have to thank Dani for such a great cross from the free-kick," he said. "But it's the kind of set-play we work on endlessly in training and there was no better time for it to pay off than against Arsenal when we needed a breakthrough."
