Stylish Juve earn Ranieri praise

Claudio Ranieri said Juventus were "eager to come back in style" as they marked their return to European football with a victory which should see them advance.

Stunning win
Absent from the competition in recent years following the sporting fraud scandal, the Bianconeri triumphed thanks to goals from Mauro Camoranesi (7), Alessandro Del Piero (26) – who played when the Turin club won the second of their European crowns in 1996 – Giorgio Chiellini (39) and Nicola Legrottaglie (90). Despite the resounding nature of the success, Ranieri urged caution ahead of the return in Slovakia in a fortnight as Artmedia's stunning 5-0 home win against Celtic FC in qualifying four years ago remains fresh in the memory.

'Very pleased'
"This was an important win but we'd be making a big mistake to underestimate the second leg," Ranieri said. "Don't forget that Artmedia succeeded in a very difficult task against Celtic a few years ago. However, we're obviously very pleased at having gained such a big victory. Juve have missed European competition in the last two seasons and the squad was eager to come back in style. We performed very well, putting in a performance which met the expectations of our fans."

'Great performance'
Defender Chiellini felt the margin of victory was even more impressive bearing in mind that the start of the Serie A season is still over a fortnight away, while Artmedia are three games into their campaign. "We're really satisfied with both the score and our display," said the 24-year-old, who continues to mature into a key figure for club and country. "The whole squad put in a great performance despite lacking match fitness, and our tempo obviously decreased in the latter stages. If we carry on like this we should win away too."
