Maurizio Trombetta has replaced Ioan Andone as coach of Romanian double winners CFR 1907 Cluj as the Transylvanian club look to improve on a poor start to their Liga 1 campaign.
Unprecedented success
The 48-year-old Andone, a former Romanian international defender, took charge of Cluj in May 2007 and led the club to unprecedented success, winning the Romanian title and cup for the first time in their history last season as well as securing their UEFA Champions League debut. The Transylvanian side have struggled to maintain their success in defence of their title, however, and have dropped to eleventh in Liga 1 with just two wins from their opening six games.
Roma start
Cluj were quick to announce Trombetta as Andone's assistant. The 46-year-old Italian, who had been working as Andone's assistant, has agreed a two-year contract which he is expected to sign in the coming days. Prior to arriving at Cluj in June, Trombetta had been working as an assistant coach at Udinese Calcio following similar positions at SSC Napoli, AC Perugia, Bologna FC and Ancona Calcio. Cluj have been drawn in Group A of the UEFA Champions League alongside Chelsea FC, FC Girondins de Bordeaux and AS Roma and kick off their campaign away to the latter on 16 September.
