'Not good'
Sir Alex Ferguson, the United manager, confirmed the diagnosis at a press conference looking ahead to Wednesday's UEFA Champions League home match against Villarreal CF. Sir Alex said: "Michael Carrick was taken off on Saturday and it has not turned out well for us. He has got a small crack in his right foot which was diagnosed on Sunday afternoon and he will be out for four to six weeks, which is not good." Fellow England international Owen Hargreaves may replace the 27-year-old Carrick after recently returning to fitness.
