Manchester United FC have signed FK Partizan youngsters Zoran Tošić and Adam Ljajić for an undisclosed fee, with manager Sir Alex Ferguson confirming: "That's the end of the transfer business for Manchester United this season."
Closed for business
The 21-year-old Tošić has joined the English champions with immediate effect while striker Ljajić, who is just 17, has been loaned back to Partizan for the remainder of the year. No fee has been released for the transfer of the two players, though reports suggest a figure of around €17m, with Sir Alex saying: "That's the end of the transfer business for Manchester United this season. There definitely won't be anything else in January."
'Time to adjust'
Sir Alex added: "Tošić is a young wide left player. We like wide players at this club. We've been watching him for over a year. Our scout in that area has been telling us about him for quite a while. He's now a regular in the Serbian national team. Hopefully he does well. We'll give him time. He's not played since 10 December so he'll need time to adjust and get used to the tempo of our game and also the training."
Established talent
The two new signings will join countryman Nemanja Vidić at Old Trafford, with the defender - who started his career at FK Crvena Zvezda before joining United from FC Spartak Moskva - now an established member of the first team. Tošić, who has scored once in his 12 international appearances for Serbia, started his career with his local side FK Proleter, moving on to FK Budućnost Banavski Dvor before the two sides merged to become FK Budućnost Zrenjanin. United face FC Internazionale Milano in the UEFA Champions League first knockout round on 24 February and 11 March.
