Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to be out of action for up to a month after aggravating an ankle sprain during Portugal's 3-0 victory against Hungary on Saturday, ruling him out of Real Madrid CF's UEFA Champions League matches against AC Milan.

Prior complaint
The 24-year-old was suffering with an ankle complaint prior to the FIFA World Cup qualifier in Lisbon and only lasted 27 minutes as Portugal moved second in Group 1. Ronaldo returned to Spain for tests, after which Madrid issued the following statement: "After a clinical examination and an MRI scan, it is confirmed the player has suffered a recurrence of his injury to his right ankle, a medial collateral sprain with inflammation in the bone. The estimated recovery time is three to four weeks."

Milan dates
Ronaldo will therefore be absent when Los Merengues take on Milan in two UEFA Champions League Group C matches, in Spain on 21 October and Italy on 3 November. Madrid top of the section with maximum points from two games while Milan are three points back in third spot.
