Midfielder Michael Carrick has signed a new contract at Manchester United FC, with the three-year deal taking him through to the end of the 2013/14 season.
The 29-year-old, capped 22 times by England, has won the UEFA Champions League and three Premier League titles since joining United from Tottenham Hotspur FC in the summer of 2006. "I am delighted Michael has signed a new contract," said manager Sir Alex Ferguson. "He has been outstanding since joining us from Tottenham Hotspur in 2006, he is a true professional and it's great he has committed his future to the club."
"There is fantastic team spirit within the squad and I'm pleased to have committed my future to United," added Carrick, who was born in the north-east of England but started his career in London with West Ham United FC. "We are in a very good position at the moment and I am confident this team will be successful for many years to come."
The Premier League leaders go into the home leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie against Olympique de Marseille on 15 March with the scores level at 0-0.
