SL Benfica coach Jorge Jesus is delighted the UEFA Champions League final will be staged in Lisbon this season, something he feels will "bring prestige to Portugal and Portuguese people".

The Portuguese capital has hosted the finals of UEFA EURO 2004 and the 2005 UEFA Cup in recent years, and now the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica will hold the biggest game in club football on 24 May 2014 – a massive honour for Benfica as well as Portugal. "When Portugal hosts events ... it's an example of quality organisation, of the passion that Portuguese fans have for football," the 59-year-old said. "And so the final of the Champions League will be the same. There will be a very beautiful atmosphere in a stadium which, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful in the world."

Benfica coach since 2009, Jesus is old enough to remember the last time the European Champion Clubs' Cup final came to Lisbon, when Celtic FC beat FC Internazionale Milano 2-1 at the Estádio Nacional. "I was a youngster," he recalled. "And now there will be a second final in Lisbon, in Portugal, and I think it will be a very big thing, therefore bringing prestige not only to Portugal but also to Portuguese football."
