Josep Guardiola, Bayen coach
I am very satisfied, congratulations to my team. We are qualified after four matchdays and now we can focus on the German Cup and the Bundesliga until March. I respect Roma – they have a very good coach and obviously after a 7-1 you play a little more defensively, sometimes with six defenders. We had to adapt to this and we were able to control their attack. It was obvious that what happened two weeks ago would not happen again. We did not find our rhythm in the first half, but in the second we did and everything went very well.

I always want to have possession and so do my players. We want to keep the ball, but this depends a lot on the opponent. Our team is very stable, other sides are not able to create a lot of chances. This is something that makes me proud. But we must not forget that we are just in the beginning of November.

With David Alaba [who suffered a ligament injury] we lose a great lad and a great player. He can play nearly every position on the field. He is very important for us. We just hope he will come back as soon as possible, but I think we will see him just after Christmas. Roma do not lose many games, they still have the qualities and the possibility to go through to the next round. I like the team and the club and the city a lot – I wish them all the best.

Rudi Garcia, Roma coach
We showed character and pride. Perhaps we could have achieved a better result, but we played against a really good team. They created two and a half chances and they scored two goals. We could have created more ourselves – when we had an opportunity they had [Manuel] Neuer, one of the best goalkeepers in the world. We prepared two strategies. We tried to achieve a good result – we played without fear, we ran a lot and we did attack quite early with our strikers. Of course we tried to counterattack.

Bayern are one of the best teams in the world. We cannot fight for possession against them, it is not possible in Munich. We did not give them too much space and they did not create as much as during the first game. I think we can be proud of our team and how we played tonight. We tried to be very compact and wanted to play aggressively. [Bayern's] pressing is very impressive, sometimes it seems they have an extra man out there.

Ribéry: First goal was key

Franck Ribéry, Bayern midfielder
It was a completely different game from the one in Rome. We worked hard but they basically had six men at the back and that's always difficult. We kept on trying, though, and it was important to get the first goal. It was also important for us to get the win and secure top spot in the group. It is always a positive [to be fit and playing]. It is good for your mindset but we have plenty of good players and there are a lot of games to play.

It is a long season. I am feeling good at the moment though and it is good for my rhythm to play from the start. I hope to continue in the same vein. It is good for the team [to have already qualified after four games]. We knew this group would not be easy but we've done well. We've played well and won our matches and it is good for confidence. Hopefully we can carry it on in the Bundesliga now.

Mario Götze, Bayern midfielder
It was a difficult group but we have done pretty well in our matches. We have got 12 points, which is what we were aiming for – and you cannot do any more than that really. It was a different match tonight from the one in Rome.

There was a lot less space and our first goal from Franck [Ribéry] was important because it opened them up a bit and we were able to create more chances. Of course it is nice to have come through a group like this so well. We can be proud and we are already looking forward to our next matches in the Champions League because they are always special.

Philipp Lahm, Bayern midfielder
Roma learned from the reverse fixture that you have to play defensively against us. They did that and at times played with six at the back, so it was not easy to create chances. That made getting the opening goal all the more important – it set us up to push on in the second half. We have won the group now, so we can focus all our energies on the Bundesliga.

Radja Nainggolan, Roma midfielder
The important thing for us today was to show the spirit of this team and I think we did a really good job because they did not have a lot of chances. We even had two or three opportunities to score but in the end I think 2-0 is a fair result. We are still second and still in with a chance of qualifying.

We adapted better to their style. We were more defensive, which made it more difficult for them. When we had the ball we tried to play on the counterattack. Sometimes it went well, but most of the time it didn't – so we have to keep working hard. But the Champions League is a new competition for a lot of us and if we keep working hard we can become a good team even in Europe.
